Long Planks Need Decoupling Support
Wood-effect planks span longer than standard tiles, making them more sensitive to movement underneath. Decoupling systems keep those long runs flat and crack-free.

Manage expansion and contraction to protect tiles from cracks due to subfloor movement.

Improve the lifespan of the tiled surface by minimising stress and potential damage.
Moisture Protection
Some decoupling systems can form part of a waterproof assembly when seams, junctions and penetrations are detailed to the manufacturer's specification. Their main job is movement management — not damp-proofing a floor.
Wood-effect planks run long, which means any inaccuracy in a cut shows. At doorways and perimeters I take the time to get the cuts right — straight, consistent, and fitted tight. On jobs where the floor meets a step or a threshold, the edge is mitred for a clean finish rather than covered with a trim piece. The layout planning at the start is what makes the cuts at the end look deliberate rather than forced.
