There is no single large-format price. A 600mm tile, a 1200×600 tile and a slab over 1200mm are not the same installation. The tile's longest side determines the working format band, while floor flatness, handling, back-buttering, layout and specialist cuts determine what else the job needs.

Paul’s practical take
The bigger the tile gets, the less forgiving the floor becomes. With 900 mm, 1200 mm and especially 1200 × 1200 porcelain, I am looking at flatness, access, handling, continuous layouts through doorways and where the cuts are going to land before worrying about how quickly the tiles can be laid. A big open floor can suit large format brilliantly, but the preparation and setting-out have to be right.

Substrate flatness
Large porcelain does not bend around dips and humps. Levelling work may be needed before installation can begin.
Handling and cutting
Bigger tiles need more room, specialist cutters and careful handling. Tight rooms and multiple doorways increase the difficulty.
Continuous layouts
Running one grid through kitchens, halls and living spaces demands more setting-out than treating every doorway as a reset.

It asks for the inputs that actually move the work instead of multiplying one headline rate by the room area.

Why two similar-looking jobs price differently
A square 600mm tile in one open room is not comparable with 1200×1200 porcelain flowing through a hall, kitchen and living area. The second job needs a flatter base, heavier handling, more planning across doorways and fewer opportunities to hide errors.

Is 600×600 classed as large format?
It sits in its own 600mm pricing band in Paul's current price book. It is not priced as a standard small-format tile.
Why must the floor be flatter for big tiles?
A large rigid tile bridges more of the floor. High and low spots make consistent adhesive coverage and a flat finished surface harder to achieve.
Are slabs over 1200mm priced online?
They require manual review because handling, access, cutting and fabrication vary too much for an automatic price to be reliable.
