Modern Wetroom Tiling Project in Didsbury

Didsbury, Manchester·Wetroom Tiling

This Didsbury bathroom project involved waterproofing and tiling a homeowner-prepared wetroom. The Impey WetDec former had already been installed before I arrived, so my work focused on the waterproofing system, shower wall tanking, large-format tiling, linear drain detailing, epoxy grout to the wetroom floor and silicone finishing.

The Preparation

  • The homeowner had already installed the Impey WetDec former before I arrived.
  • The wetroom floor was waterproofed using the Impey waterproofing system.
  • The shower walls were tanked using the Jackoboard tanking system before any tiles were fixed.
  • The tile layout was planned around the linear drain, window reveals and feature wall.

The Detail

  • Large-format porcelain tiles were installed to the walls and floor.
  • The wetroom floor was grouted using ARDEX epoxy grout for extra durability in the area exposed to the most water.
  • The linear drain was carefully detailed so the floor tiling worked cleanly into the waste.
  • Colour-matched trims were used to finish the window reveals and exposed edges.
  • The textured feature tile was installed within the shower area to break up the main tile finish.

The Result

  • A clean, modern wetroom finish with the waterproofing work documented before it was covered.
  • A properly tanked wet area using recognised waterproofing systems rather than relying on tiles and grout alone.
  • A neat large-format tiled finish with epoxy grout used on the wetroom floor for improved durability.

How the Job Was Done

From substrate condition through to the finished result.

Preparation

Impey floor waterproofing and Jackoboard tanking before tiling — the floor was sealed with the Impey Water Guard system and the walls boarded and tanked before a single tile went on. This is the part that keeps a wetroom watertight, and it gets covered up, so it's worth documenting.

Installation In Progress

Large-format porcelain installation in progress — floor and walls tiled with levelling clips, set out around the recessed linear drain and the window.

Detail Work

Linear drain and feature tile — the floor worked cleanly into the drain and a textured feature tile picked out the shower area. The wetroom floor was grouted with ARDEX epoxy grout for durability in the wettest part of the room.

Finished Result

Completed modern wetroom tiling in Didsbury — large-format porcelain to the walls and floor, a textured feature tile in the shower area, the linear drain running flush, and colour-matched trims to the window reveals and exposed edges.

This was a wetroom tiling project in Didsbury, Manchester, where the homeowner had already installed the Impey WetDec former before I started. My role was the waterproofing and tiling: the floor was waterproofed using the Impey waterproofing system and the shower walls were tanked with the Jackoboard tanking system before any tiles went on. From there I fixed large-format porcelain to the walls and floor, detailed the tiling into the recessed linear drain, and installed a textured feature tile within the shower area. The wetroom floor was grouted with ARDEX epoxy grout for durability in the wettest part of the room, the window reveals and exposed edges were finished with colour-matched trims, and the perimeters and movement joints were finished in silicone. This was not a full bathroom installation — the plumbing, sanitaryware, electrics and joinery were not part of my work.
