Why Jackoboard instead of plasterboard?

Standard plasterboard absorbs moisture and will deteriorate behind tiles in wet areas — often causing tiles to debond or grout to crack within a few years.

Jackoboard is a waterproof foam-core construction board, not a cement board. It's made from extruded polystyrene (XPS) with a reinforced cement coating on the surface for tile adhesion.

It doesn't absorb water, stays dimensionally stable, and provides a reliable base for tiling in wet areas. Mechanically fixed, with joints taped and sealed, it creates a substrate that properly supports a long-lasting tiled finish.

Preparation-First Approach

Wall Preparation

Surfaces checked for plumb, flat and ready for tile. Where needed, boards are fitted and waterproofed before tiling begins.

Waterproofing

Wet areas tanked properly. Tanking membranes applied to walls and floors in shower areas so water stays where it should.

Layout Planning

Tiles set out so cuts fall where they should and the finish looks balanced. No awkward slivers or wonky layouts.

Installation

Tiles laid with mechanical levelling on larger formats. Grout applied cleanly with consistent joints throughout.

Finishing

Perimeters siliconed for movement, grouting cleaned, and the space left spotless.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does bathroom tiling cost in Cheshire?

Cost depends on the size of the area, the materials involved, and how much preparation the substrate needs. I provide clear, itemised quotes after a site visit — no vague estimates.

Do you prepare the floor / substrate before tiling?

Always. Every project starts with a thorough assessment — level, movement, moisture. Where needed, self-levelling compound is applied and fully cured before any tiles go down.

Are you insured and accredited?

Yes. I'm a Member of The Tile Association and carry full public liability insurance. Both certificates are available on request.

Do you work across Cheshire or just Warrington?

I work across the whole of Cheshire and South Manchester — including Altrincham, Hale Barns, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Prestbury, and further afield.
