Premium grout pricing

Epoxy Grout Cost UK (2026)

Epoxy grout is a premium finish, not a cheap swap for cement grout. Material use changes with tile size, joint width and joint depth, while application and cleaning take longer and demand tighter control. It can be worthwhile where stain resistance, low absorption and easier long-term maintenance matter.

Indicative estimate from Paul's live 2026 price book. It is not a fixed quotation.

Paul’s practical take

I don’t automatically try to sell epoxy grout on every job. Where staining, repeated wetting or easy maintenance matter, it can be a very good upgrade. But the amount of epoxy needed is heavily affected by the tile size, joint width and tile thickness. A 600 × 600 floor with narrow joints is completely different from mosaics with hundreds of joints, even when the square metres are the same.

Paul Finn, working tiler

Tile and joint size

Small tiles create far more joint length per square metre than large tiles. Wider and deeper joints also consume more material.

Minimum viable job

Setup, mixing, application and staged cleaning create a practical minimum even when the tiled area is small.

Application conditions

Heat, textured tiles, tight joints and awkward rooms affect working time and cleaning.

Where it is used

Kitchen floors, showers and high-use areas tend to gain more from the upgrade than dry, low-traffic wall tiling.

What the estimator accounts for

It asks for the inputs that actually move the work instead of multiplying one headline rate by the room area.

  • Tile dimensions
  • Joint width and depth
  • Wall or floor area
  • Material quantity
  • Specialist application and cleaning labour

Why two similar-looking jobs price differently

Ten square metres of large porcelain with narrow joints uses far less grout than ten square metres of mosaics. Quoting epoxy as one flat amount per room ignores the material and labour difference, so the estimator prices it from the joint geometry and applies the working minimum.

Common questions

Why is epoxy grout more expensive?

The material costs more, application is slower and cleaning must be completed carefully within the working window.

Is epoxy grout waterproof?

It is highly resistant to water absorption, but grout is not a substitute for the waterproofing system beneath tiles in a shower or wet room.

Is epoxy grout worth it?

It is strongest where staining, repeated wetting or hard use make easier maintenance valuable. It is not automatically necessary for every dry wall.
